This week has been a whirlwind of emotions for various reasons. Another class is winding down in EDUD at TLU. I have gained so much insight and feel I’ve acquired skills for effective leadership. I really enjoyed learning about the Japanese Kaizen principles and discussing them with my half-Japanese friend Linda, who resides with her 95-year-old mother.    I really appreciate the notion of continual improvement where everyone at every moment is doing better all of the time.  I cannot wrap my mind around the notion of Kaizen as a competitive strategy because, in competition, there are always winners and losers.

This week’s instruction/coursework is engaging because it involves implementing plans to make things to make things happen.  We learned about Chance's (2009) Decision-Making Theories.  Taylor's scientific management model endorses that a single authority makes decisions deliberately.    This seems like a model that can work and probably exists in family-owned businesses and small non-profit entities.

This week’s content was very deceptive when I first started reading the course materials when I went the the Menchaca Road Public Library after work.  This has been a habit for me as I deceptively think I will get better peace and quiet than I would if I went home to study.  I find myself noticing a pin drop or somebody rustling a paper.  I’ve been going there for a little-while now after work and reading away from the laptop.  It’s been working so far.
